Common worship has a central place in Lutheran spirituality. The services and prayers in this book, which is a contribution to the wider koinonia, are especially intended for use in LWF member churches, by individuals and in various gatherings.

In worship, we are united not only with the communion of Lutheran churches around the world, but also with the universal church and its witnesses from biblical times until today. In worship, we are united with the Triune God, whose gifts in the proclamation of the gospel and the celebration of the sacraments are for the salvation of humankind. Orders of worship and prayer resources have belong to the life of the church since its beginning.  In no other area do apostolicity and continuity of the church show themselves as clearly as in the church’s liturgies. In their worship life, Lutheran churches have continued and adapted these basic structures and traditions, which are reflected in this book.
