Nurturing relations

The Office of the General Secretary has primary responsibility for nurturing and promoting communion relations and promoting Christian unity.

The Office of the General Secretary in the Communion Office of the LWF consists of the General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary for Ecumenical Relations, four Regional Secretaries, an Assembly Coordination team and administrative staff.

Its main functions are to:

  • Nurture and promote communion relationships with and among LWF member churches as well as connect local concerns with global initiatives.
  • Promote Christian unity and ecumenical relations through research, dialogues, consultations, networking and visits.
  • Nurture and promote relationships and partnerships in matters concerning human rights and international affairs.

This document contains the internal organization of the Communion Office.

Our Geneva-based Communion Office carries out LWF’s work as mandated by the Assembly and the Council. It serves and works together with our member churches, as well as related agencies, theological institutions and ecumenical partners.

The Communion Office is located in the Ecumenical Center in Geneva, Switzerland.
