The brochure “Called to Transform: A Lutheran Perspective on Religion and Development” offers a two-fold contribution to the current discourse on religion and development. First, it describes the debate, including the role of religion as both help and hindrance from a development and humanitarian perspective, and provides a critical assessment of the risks and challenges entailed in the discourse. Second, it offers a Lutheran inside perspective by clearly outlining the faith basis and resulting values that inform the LWF’s understanding of development and guide its practical engagement.
