International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March represents an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women worldwide.

The 2016 theme is a “Pledge For Parity” — in other words a pledge for gender justice. It is a time to reflect on how far we've come and just how far we still must go before women around the world truly achieve gender justice.

Whether they are engineers brightening up their village in Mauritania; women who are seeking ways to escape camp life in Iraq; or women who just have a knack for electronics in Jerusalem, the LWF celebrates the vastly different ways in which women are striving to achieve their professional and personal goals, making a difference for themselves, their families and their communities.
