Assisi Ecumenical Prayer for Creation

The LWF will mark the beginning of this year’s Season of Creation by sharing the leadership of the Ecumenical Prayer for Creation in Assisi, Italy, at the Basilica of Saint Francis. The Season of Creation begins on 1 September with the World Day of Prayer for Creation, and lasts until the commemoration of St. Francis on October 4. The prayer service will focus on this year’s theme “Walking Together”, and will launch the first steps of an international, ecumenical pilgrimage to Katowice, Poland, the site of the COP 24. In addition to prayers, songs and symbolic acts of faith, a joint Ecumenical Declaration on Creation will be read by LWF General Secretary, and leaders of other Christian World Communions. This prayer service will demonstrate the ecumenical unity that all Christians share as we take bold action to care for creation.
