Disaster preparedness and emergency response. Training. Support to members.

LWF member churches are called to take part in God’s mission, which includes proclaiming Christ’s Gospel, serving the vulnerable (diakonia), and advocating for them.

The Capacity for Diakonia program helps our churches improve their ability to respond to the needs of their communities.

We encourage mutual support and sharing of resources among our member churches and related agencies so that we are better equipped to serve vulnerable people throughout the communion. Building capacity for diakonia, offering training in management skills, sharing resources and mutual learning on addressing human suffering, injustice and on emergency response, enable churches to become better equipped to undertake these roles.

DMD works closely with the Department for World Service in developing churches’ capacity to respond to emergencies.
