Church Leaders Join in Fast for the Climate

“Promote an Economy That Places Life First”

(LWI) – Church leaders from Asia, Africa and Latin America today joined Fast for the Climate.

The fast, which takes place the first day of every month is meant as a regular day of prayer and spiritual reflection to express solidarity with those who are most vulnerable to climate change.

The LWF is calling for a fast on the first day each month until December 2014, when the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will take place in Lima, Peru.

Reflections on Day of Fasting for the Climate

(LWI) – As The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) embarks on its monthly Day of Fasting for the Climate, the seven young delegates who launched the campaign reflected on it as a galvanizing act of solidarity with the vulnerable.

The Day of Fasting for the Climate will be launched on 1 January and continues on the first day of every month until 1 December 2014 when negotiations begin at the Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 20) in Lima, Peru.

“People of Faith Stand Together”

Interfaith Fasting Initiative for the Climate Continues

(LWI) – Delegations from The Lutheran World Federation (LWF); the international Catholic climate organization CIDSE and the World Council of Churches (WCC) at COP19 hosted a press conference on Friday 22 November to launch a monthly fasting day towards COP20.

Faith groups are calling for a tangible and ambitious outcome to the climate change negotiations.

“Because people of faith stand together,” said Caroline Richter, head of the LWF delegation to COP19.
