For those who have no idea about what is going on with Climate Change negotiations at the global level, I will try to make my points as simply as possible, without any technical abbreviations or jargon.  First, let’s define some of the basic terms:

Climate Change:  What is it?

With a slightly lighter tone, I think it is a good time to comment on the fashion styling’s of several COP delegates and observers. International conferences are always a good time to see different styles and outfits as there are a number of representatives from around the world. Having been involved with a number of LWF events in the past, I have become quite familiar with these sorts of eclectic fashion statements, and even look forward to seeing them.

On last Tuesday some of us in the delegation took some time away from the COP20 and travelled out to visit the congregation, Vida Nueva, in the district of San Juan de Miraflores. Vida Nueva is a young and small congregation with around 30 members.

When we arrived at San Juan de Miraflores we were greeted by Pastor Pedro Bullona who showed us the way to church, which was almost on top of a mountain at the edge of the city, and we got the opportunity to see a part of Lima that we haven’t seen before.

LWF Delegation Joins Human Chain in Solidarity with Climate Vulnerable Communities

Typhoon in the Philippines Prompts the Call for “Solidarity not just Sympathy”

(LWI) – In solidarity with the people of the Philippines impacted by typhoon Hagupit (also known as “Ruby”), scores of advocates including the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) delegation, Youth consituencies, Faith actors, Fast for the Climate members, local activists and other environmentally-focused NGOs formed a “human chain” inside the COP20 conference centre in Lima, Peru, where this week, climate change discussions continue until 12 December.

A Question of Fairness and Equity: Jeff Buhse

I’ve been thinking a lot about equity and fairness, two terms used quite regularly in discussions regarding Mitigation, Adaptation, Loss and Damage, and contributions to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). Although I may not have a complete understanding of the weight these terms carry with regards to climate policy negotiations, I do feel that I have a good handle of how they affect my daily life as a Lutheran.

I greeted more people than I could count this morning as busloads of observers, official delegates, and press from around the globe emptied out into the entrance of the conference center beside the Pentagonito in Lima. This is the site of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Conference of Parties (UNFCCC COP 20). We were the first to greet these participants as they entered the official site, and invite their support of the LWF’s #fastfortheclimate campaign.
