World Humanitarian Day

World Humanitarian Day is marked by the international community each year on 19 August, recalling a terrorist attack in Iraq in 2003 which killed 11 aid workers. LWF, through its World Service humanitarian arm, works as an implementing organization in countries around the globe providing life-saving aid to refugees, internally displaced people, host communities and people at risk.

The work of humanitarians today is made increasingly difficult by shrinking humanitarian space, and challenges in safety and security for staff. In recent years, the global COVID-19 pandemic has made this work even more challenging. On World Humanitarian Day, we join in celebrating the people who have dedicated their lives to helping others and honor their commitment.
