2030 Agenda / SDGs

The LWF is committed to helping realise the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the UN in 2015  to encourage action in areas of vital importance for humanity and our planet in the years leading up to 2030. Working both locally and globally in cooperation with ecumenical and interfaith networks, we are a valuable partner to the UN, as well as an important advocacy voice for achieving the SDGs for the benefit of the people we serve.

Through its World Service programs and member churches throughout the world, the LWF is already involved in work that relates to the 2030 Agenda. Our role includes building member church capacity for implementing the goals, supporting church advocacy to improve local policies and working to change unhelpful beliefs and norms. While supporting the SDGs as a whole, the LWF has a particularly strong involvement in eight of the goals:

 – End poverty (SDG 1)
 – End hunger and achieve food security (SDG 2)
 – Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being (SDG 3)
 – Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education (SDG 4)
 – Achieve gender equality and empower women and girls (SDG 5)
 – Combat climate changes and their impact (SDG 13)
 – Promote peaceful, inclusive and accountable societies (SDG 16)
 – Revitalize global partnership for sustainable development (SDG 17)
