The Lutheran World Federation 2017 Facts and Figures

For a just, peaceful and reconciled world.

The LWF was established in 1947 as a federation of Lutheran churches. One of its first important efforts was responding to human suffering in the aftermath of the Second World War. Today, the LWF is a communion of 148 churches in 99 countries:

• 55 in Asia
• 31 in Africa
• 41 in Europe
• 19 in Latin America and the Caribbean
• 2 in North America

In 2017, LWF served 3 million people. LWF expects to serve 3.5 million people in 2018.
