Assessment mission to Hungary and Serbia

(LWI) – The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has sent an assessment team to Hungary which will explore possible support in the European refugee crisis.

“We sent an experienced member of staff to accompany the work of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary (ELCH) with the refugees,” LWF Humanitarian Coordinator Roland Schlott says. “We want to explore how we can best support them, and how we can best support refugees.”

The LWF staff will visit ELCH diaconal projects, the ecumenical agency Hungarian Interchurch Aid and Hungarian Diakonia in Hungary, and meet with churches and ecumenical networks in Serbia, Schlott further said. The LWF staff will be accompanied by a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria (ELCB), which is also hosting large numbers of refugees in Southern Germany.
