Several areas of LWF’s work include direct engagement with the member churches, country programs and the communities they serve in projects, campaigns and training opportunities to build and strengthen capacity.

- Ukraine Crisis
(Since February 2022)
The war in Ukraine is affecting millions of people who need humanitarian support. Women and children are particularly at risk. LWF is coordinating an emergency response to ensure support to refugees and people in need inside Ukraine.
- COVID-19 response
During the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the LWF makes information and resources available and encourages member churches to reduce the impact of the pandemic.

- Climate Justice Projects
Call for applications: 30 April 2023
The project holders will be the young people from LWF member church who develop and implement the project locally along with the other members of the church and the communities by reaching out the schools, villages youth groups and student movements.

- Stewards Program for LWF Thirteenth Assembly
Last call for applications: 30 September 2022
Young Lutherans (18-30 years) from LWF member churches are invited to apply to be stewards at the Thirteenth Assembly. The Stewards Program will provide a space for sharing ideas, leadership development, and increased understanding of The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and the role of its highest decision-making body, the Assembly.

- COP: Call for Nominations
Last call for nominations: 15 August 2022
The LWF calls for youth nominations from all regions to participate in negotiations at the UN climate conference COP27. The nominated youth will play a key role in shaping the LWF’s engagement with COP27 – ranging from national-level advocacy to global mobilization.
- Hélène Ralivao Fund
Last call for applications: 30 December 2022
The LWF invites women, men and youth from its member churches in Africa to submit applications for a training in theology, gender justice and leadership education, under the Hélène Ralivao Fund.
- Lay Leaders’ Seminar
Last call for applications: 20 February 2023
6th International Seminar for Lay Persons in Church Leadership Positions (18-27 June 2023)
Church leadership is a shared responsibility. The program consists of biblical, theological, and leadership training modules taught in a combination of individual and peer learning sessions.

LWF-supported projects address strategic priorities of the member churches. Any LWF member church, national committee, regional expression or related diaconal institution is eligible to apply for short-term or long-term projects.

Every year, LWF awards around 90 new scholarships in the fields of theology and diakonia. The aim is to equip individuals with knowledge, skills and confidence in order to strengthen the churches’ capacities for holistic mission and prepare the next generation of leaders in the Lutheran communion.

- Hymns of Advent and Christmas
From Sunday, 27 November until Saturday, 24 December 2022
During this Advent season, LWF member churches are sharing hymns from their congregations to show how the Lutheran communion regions prepare for Christ’s coming into this world.
We want to use this period to reflect on and celebrate the diversity, uniqueness and oneness of God’s gifts to us.

- Youth Peace Projects

The project concept has to empower the young people to advocate for actions that promote peaceful, inclusive, and just societies, increase the level of mitigation and adaptation awareness amongst the LWF member churches, and encourage the Inclusion of young people in peacebuilding at local and national levels.
