Theology, Unity, Mission and Justice are at the heart of the LWF’s work as we seek to support the presence and witness of our member churches and World Service country programs in their diverse local contexts.

At the global level, we develop theological reflection and educational resources to address contemporary challenges and to articulate our Lutheran identity in today’s world. We offer platforms for reflection and joint work on gender justice and women's empowerment, eco-theology and what it means to be church in the public space. We understand our vocation as God’s call to each one of us to live and work together as a communion of churches in ongoing Reformation.

In our work towards the goal of Christian unity we engage with ecumenical and inter-faith partners, both bilaterally and in multilateral forums, to build mutual understanding and collaborate more closely together to serve people in need.

Through our different mission programs, we strive to strengthen relations between member churches, equipping them to intensify their diaconal and pastoral work and deepen their witness to the gospel values of dignity, reconciliation, justice and peace.

The new Action for Justice unit is the advocacy hub of the LWF. We focus on the four areas of Human Rights, Climate Justice, Gender Justice, and Interfaith and Peace-building. We aim to ensure that the unique contribution of the LWF as a faith-based organization has an impact, linking local community-based operations in the churches and World Service country programs to national, regional and international advocacy efforts.
