The Department for Theology, Mission and Justice (DTMJ) supports the presence and witness of LWF member churches in their local contexts and at the global level. It develops theological reflection to help articulate what it means to be Lutheran churches in communion.

Through its programmatic work, DTMJ provides orientation to help discern and address theological challenges facing churches today, and share experiences on ecumenical and interreligious relations, advocacy and gender justice. Its programs also seek to ensure that the unique contributions of the LWF as a faith-based organization are visible through a strong focus on advocacy, linking local community-based operations in the churches and country programs to national, regional and international advocacy.

Collaboration between DTMJ and the other LWF departments ensures not only support to the member churches but also enhances a common approach to shared themes such as human rights, interfaith and peace, gender justice, and climate justice.
