The LWF is called by God to service such as social ministry, pastoral work and advocacy. This is carried out by congregations and synods in the local, regional or global arena.

We support member churches in their capacity to respond to human suffering. We coordinate global programs on behalf of member churches. We aim to be an effective voice for justice, peace and human rights.

We work with member churches, and ecumenical and global partners. We are an active member of the ACT Alliance, which responds to humanitarian crises.

What we do

  • Support and develop the capacities of Lutheran churches for service and advocacy in response to human suffering
  • Carry out humanitarian and development programs on behalf of member churches, giving priority to people affected by conflict, emergencies and natural disasters
  • Improve capacity for responding to natural disasters and emergencies caused by conflict
  • Build strong relationships with our partners
  • Strengthen advocacy to address the root causes of injustice
  • Share stories about the difference our churches and the communion make in the world
