As we approach 500 years of reformation, we must again look at mission in relation to the now-globalized reformation. One of the key insights that led to the reformation was Romans 1:16-17: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith.” With this conviction, holistic mission has been done. It was the discovery of the gospel that liberated Luther into reformation.

The consultation, Contemporary mission in global Christianity, will bring participants together to share experiences, encourage each other and rediscover the calling that we should not be ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for salvation. Since the common understanding of mission as Missio Dei some decades ago, churches have wrestled with the question of what their holistic mission is today.

One priority is to accompany member churches in growing in capacity for holistic mission and deepening relationships with each other. Churches must keep contemplating the mission of the church at every moment and in every place.

This consultation is a new activity that relates to regional workshops on religion and development, and to gender justice policy implementation among women theologians' network. The goals are to:

  • explore mission contexts in different regions by sharing experiences, stories and good practices
  • enable exchange between mission practitioners in different regions to improve cooperation
  • contemplate key challenges for mission work in different regions
  • enable interaction and exchange among practitioners from different global contexts and the possibilities of networking for future cooperation

In English, with translation to Spanish.
