Theology & Public Witness – Vital. Contextual. Cutting-Edge.

The Department for Theology and Public Witness guides the theological, ecumenical and interfaith work of the LWF. We take the lead in strengthening gender justice and advocacy across the whole communion.

We coordinate preparations on the journey to commemorations of the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation in 2017 and nurture the worship life of the communion.

We are engaged in the vital theological questions of today alongside our member churches, theological institutions, World Service country programs and partner organizations. We draw on the theological expertise of our constituency, providing a unique space for academic theologians, church leaders and activists to discern issues of common concern across different contexts and regions.

We act as a think tank on issues of global concern. In this task, we look to ensure that local and regional experiences in the areas of theology, ecumenical and interreligious relations, advocacy and gender justice are heard at the global level.
