The Nordic region is one of three LWF regions in Europe.
Communion in the Nordic Countries
The Nordic member churches have always felt close to one another geographically and culturally. Through the Porvoo Agreement, many of the region’s churches share a specific basis for and perspective of ecumenical cooperation, through which the LWF communion shows itself as being open to and inspiring for ecumenical existence and activity.
Meeting regularly within the Lutheran family of the region, the churches reassure each other of their identity, so that ecumenical activities directed at making visible the wider communion of the Church in its various Denominations can be undertaken even more decisively. Through close relationships with Lutheran Member churches in the Baltic region, interregional communion is expressed on a permanent basis.
