Communion in Central Eastern Europe
In Central Eastern Europe, cooperation and joint reflection on the process of “finding and defining the new role of the church in a post-communist era” is a common challenge for member churches.
They share common experiences in this field, are confronted with similar challenges and have to find ways in which to describe anew their relationship with the state. “Communion” here often takes the shape of mutual information, exchange of experience and sharing resources of know-how and people.
Supporting each other within the region, instead of looking mainly to east-west relations for support, will become increasingly important and self-evident. The past experiences of the Central Eastern churches regarding their marginalized life under totalitarian rule, may become increasingly important for the churches of western Europe, which are facing a different form of marginalization.
