The Department for Mission and Development manages LWF Human Resources Development (HRD) programs, which are aimed at strengthening the Lutheran communion for holistic mission through education and training. HRD sharing of resources enables churches and individuals to reach their potential for witness and service. In workshops and individual meetings with church leaders, churches are encouraged to include planning for human resources development as part of their total strategic planning.
Applications for all HRD programs require endorsement by an LWF member church.
International Scholarship Program
The International Scholarship Program is the key HRD instrument and provides support for short- and long-term, academic and non-academic/practice-oriented programs in theological and other areas of study, responding to the needs of the member churches.
Short-Term Study and Research Program
The Short-Term Study and Research Program assists in the secondment of persons for short training programs relevant to their work in their home country or abroad. Continued education of staff enables the member churches to meet new challenges in their holistic ministries.
Scholarship Program for People with Disabilities & Disability Ministry Fund
The Scholarship Program for People with Disabilities aims to promote an inclusive communion by making education and training more accessible for people with disabilities. The program provides scholarships in both theological and non-theological areas of study.
The Disability Ministry Fund strives to mainstream people with disabilities into the life and mission of the member churches and the Lutheran communion.
Fund For Language Training Courses
The main goal of the Fund for Language Training Courses is to enhance interaction and participation in the life of the Lutheran communion by breaking down language barriers between individuals. The whole communion benefits when individuals are able to participate in international gatherings and, in an active way, share their experiences and knowledge.
Professional Experience Exchange Program
The Professional Experience Exchange Program faciltates the sharing of knowledge and experience within the communion through guest lecturers and other professional exchanges between churches, countries and continents.
