The work of the Department for Theology and Studies is being integrated into a new Communion Office unit, the Department for Theology and Public Witness.
Currently, General Secretary Rev. Martin Junge is serving as Acting Director.
Our pluralistic, multi-faith, conflicted world calls for ongoing critical theological reflection on what it means to believe and live out the Christian faith as Lutheran churches in diverse settings across the globe.
The theological basis, meaning and implications of what it means to be a communion of churches is what makes the LWF far more than another non-governmental organization (NGO).
Theological work challenges churches to consider new questions and horizons of faithfulness in light of the biblical and confessional heritage we share.
Since 1990, theological work of the Department for Theology and Studies (DTS) has been organized around four programmatic areas:
- Theology and the Church
- Church and Social Issues
- Church and People of Other Faiths
- Worship and Congregational Life
DTS work is guided by the Program Committee for Theology and Studies and carried out by DTS staff.
