The LWF secretariat carries out the communion’s tasks as mandated by the Assembly and the Council. It serves and works together with LWF member churches, as well as related agencies, theological institutions and ecumenical partners.

Personnel
Around 65 staff members from more than 20 different countries are based in the LWF Geneva secretariat. Half of them are internationally recruited executive staff, and the other half are locally recruited administrative staff.
Location
The secretariat’s location in the Ecumenical Center in Geneva, Switzerland, ensures close cooperation with the World Council of Churches and other Christian world communions, as well as international secular organizations.
Governance
The LWF Council determines the structure and mandate of the secretariat.
