Titi Malik came to the LWF Council in Geneva from Nigeria. For her, the anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 is a central event to which Lutherans all over the world should contribute.

Lutheran World Information (LWI) talked to her during the 2011 Council meeting.

LWI | What messages will you take home from Geneva?

Malik | The strategic plan is very important in my view as it will show us the way forward for the coming years. It has gathered together all the important topics. At home in Nigeria we will certainly deal with the issue of gender equity. Involving young people must be given more attention in future too. And I think that the year 2017 with the 500th anniversary of the Reformation will be an important event for us all. Lutherans from all over the world should contribute to it.

LWI | What is particularly important for you?

Malik | It is proclaiming the gospel and working for a peaceful life together. We must all learn how to share with one another. When we learn to do without something for the sake of others, we will be able to solve many of the problems we have in living together.

LWI | You have been intensively concerned with communication here. Why is that important?

Malik | Communication is a central instrument to guarantee the flow of information from the LWF to the member churches and congregations. That concerns all areas of activity from mission to diakonia. We must strengthen our communication. After all, it is only through communication that we can proclaim the message of Jesus Christ to the world.
