Good food is a cause for rejoicing, a part of our shared humanity and rhythm of life. Inspired by the LWF Eleventh Assembly theme “Give Us Today Our Daily Bread”, Food for Life extends an invitation to enjoy dishes nourishing people in a variety of contexts around the world, and, in doing so, to join with them in table fellowship.
With over 100 recipes from individuals and communities in 23 countries and regions served by the Lutheran World Federation’s Department for World Service, Food for Life – which also contains table blessings and stories – gives insight into different cultural and religious backgrounds, and sheds light on methods of food production and the ways in which people cope with scarcity and adapt to climate change.
The dishes are grouped into four chapters focusing on the agricultural cycle, religious celebrations, major life events, and daily life. The original recipes have been edited for use in other countries, and extra information is provided concerning ingredients which may be unfamiliar.
Whether beginner or experienced cook, if you are interested in the daily lives and daily bread of people in other parts of the world, there is something in this cookbook for you!
