LWF President 1997-2003

Bishop emeritus Dr Christian Krause of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brunswick, Germany was elected LWF President in 1997 by the LWF Ninth Assembly, which took place in Hong Kong, China, serving to the 2003 Tenth Assembly in Winnipeg, Canada.
Until his appointment as bishop in 1994, Dr. Krause was General Secretary of the German Protestant Church Assembly (Kirchentag).
His contacts with the LWF date back to the 1960s when he worked in the then Department of Theology in Geneva. From there, he worked with the LWF office of the Tanganyika Christian Refugee Service (TCRS) in Tanzania.
Dr. Krause resigned as bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brunswick in January 2002.
