Employment with the LWF
LWF staff: carrying out the communion's mandate © LWF/H. Putsman Penet |
The LWF is a faith-based organization committed to maintaining an inclusive community respecting diversity.
The LWF seeks qualified, motivated individuals with an understanding of Christian values and the ability to work with people of a wide variety of beliefs and backgrounds.
More than 70 people currently serve at the secretariat in Geneva, in conjunction with 40 international field staff and 2,500 local employees with programs of the Department for World Service (DWS) in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. The Office for Personnel is responsible for LWF staff recruitment.
The LWF conducts hiring and determines personnel policy without regard to race, gender, creed, ethnicity or national origin. This commitment to equal opportunity employment does not preclude the requirement of a member church endorsement for LWF/DWS field representatives and Geneva secretariat executive staff in order to ensure representation of constituent churches.
Internships and Traineeships
Through internships and traineeships the LWF offers young people the opportunity to work in its Geneva secretariat for a set period of time. Interns and trainees further their professional development and increase their knowledge of the Lutheran communion and the wider ecumenical movement.
• LWF Youth internship
A ten-month placement from February to November for young people aged 18-30. Applicants must have the endorsement of an LWF member church. Young people from the South are especially encouraged to apply. The LWF covers living costs in Geneva. One to two applicants are accepted each year.
• Traineeship
Self-funded placements of minimum six-month's duration beginning on 1 February or 1 October. A traineeship can be arranged with the Departments for Theology and Studies, World Service, and Mission and Development, and the Offices for Communication Services, International Affairs and Human Rights, and Ecumenical Affairs. To apply, send a letter of motivation, CV and any relevant information by email to the Office for Personnel.
