The instruments of international human rights law serve to promote and protect the dignity of all human beings, each of whom bears the image of God.

Recognized as a nongovernmental organization with consultative status at the United Nations, the LWF advocates for human rights on behalf of its member churches, field programs and partners.

OIAHR Key Tasks

The LWF Office for International Affairs & Human Rights (OIAHR):

  • monitors the major UN human rights forums, and issues reports on their activities
  • assists the LWF communion to understand better the complex UN human rights system, and to make use of UN human rights mechanisms in work for social justice and human dignity around the world.
