UN Human Rights Bodies

The instruments of international human rights law are tools for the promotion and protection of the dignity of all human beings, each of whom bears the image of God.
The LWF Office for International Affairs & Human Rights (OIAHR) monitors and reports on the major United Nations human rights forums, and is active in advocacy in many of them. OIAHR acts as a vehicle for engagement by LWF member churches and field programs in the work of the UN human rights system.

The UN human rights system is extremely complex. OIAHR works to assist members of the LWF family to understand it better, and to encourage them to make practical use of the UN human rights mechanisms in their work for human dignity and social justice around the world.

OIAHR particularly recommends the UN human rights treaty bodies, the universal periodic review mechanism and special procedures of the Human Rights Council as useful entry points for the work of the LWF and its partners in the field of human rights.
