Peacemaking and Reconciliation

Many communities and churches around the world continue to live amid violence and conflict, and innocent civilians are increasingly the main victims of armed conflicts. The LWF has engaged directly in the promotion of peace and reconciliation in several specific conflicts, both through dialogue with the parties concerned and through support for the peace promotion work of local churches and faith communities.
The LWF sees interfaith dialogue and cooperation as a principal means of promoting the development of a culture of peace, in a world in which religious diversity is frequently exploited for political and military purposes. The LWF has especially played a lead role in promoting inter-faith action for peace in Africa.

Violence and the need for reconciliation are also present in many other contexts, including the home and church. The incidence of violence against women and children is of special concern to the LWF. (Link requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) 
The LWF supports and endorses the Ecumenical Decade to Overcome Violence, and the Global Priorities Campaign for reduced military spending in favour of increased social spending.
