Stewardship of Wealth - Overcoming Poverty Is the Focus of LWF Sunday 2007
Special LWI Edition on Stewardship of Wealth
GENEVA, 3 October 2007 (LWI) - “How do we within the Lutheran communion live out our relationship as brothers and sisters in Christ in a world divided by unshared bread?” Bishop Mark S. Hanson, president of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, poses this question in his greeting to members of the Lutheran communion on the occasion of LWF Sunday commemorated on or around Reformation Sunday in October each year. Hanson’s words and the accompanying liturgy for the 2007 LWF Sunday publication focus on the subject “Stewardship of Wealth – Overcoming Poverty.” The material is available in English, German, French and Spanish.
The English and German LWF Sunday are combined with a special edition of the Lutheran World Information (LWI) also titled “Stewardship of Wealth – Overcoming Poverty.” The LWI No. 08/2007 brings together contributions from a variety of writers on the different approaches and efforts in the fight against poverty and its manifestations. The articles also provide insight into the churches’ role in restoring justice and advocating the rightful redistribution of wealth to all God’s people especially the poor. The special issue includes feature articles from the LWF regions demonstrating how effective coordination, management and stewardship of people’s resources can improve the quality of life and empower individuals and communities to claim their rights.
