LWF Sunday 2006: Reflections on "Living in Communion"
The General Secretary of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Rev. Dr Ishmael Noko, during this year's traditional LWF Sunday celebrations, invites the Lutheran communion to reflect on the theme "Living in Communion" and to focus on the federation's 60th anniversary. In the annual LWF leaflet, prepared for use by congregations and other groups during worship services on or around Reformation Sunday, Noko invites readers to contemplate what it means to be a communion of churches. "By grace, God calls us into the communion of divine life," he writes. "This implies that we take courageous strides toward building and sustaining relationships among the members in the communion and throughout the world. There are no longer member churches on the one hand and the LWF on the other," he adds.
The LWF Council adopted the concept of an "LWF Sunday" or a "Lutheran Communion Sunday" in 1995. The LWF Department for Mission and Development provided material for this year's publication.
The four-page leaflet is free of charge and available in English, French, German and Spanish.
