Ethiopian Church Pays Tribute to Feyissa Kayemo’s Dedicated Service
EECMY Recognizes Kayemo's Commitment to the Well-being of Millions of EthiopiansThe Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) has paid tribute to the dedicated service of Mr Feyissa Kayemo who passed away February 16, following a heart attack.
Kayemo, 56, was director of the EECMY Development and Social Service Commission (DASSC). At a meeting of senior EECMY officers in February, the church recognized his invaluable commitment to the development and well-being of millions of Ethiopians during his work with the church for many years.
Born at Wondogenet, southern Ethiopia, Kayemo was educated locally. He pursued undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the United States of America, specializing in plant science.
Kayemo joined the EECMY in 1982, where he served in different positions including that of director of development in the South Central Ethiopia Synod, and as vice-president of the synod. In 1993, he moved to the church’s headquarters in Addis Ababa as director of the then Development Department, currently DASSC. While working for the EECMY, Kayemo represented the church at various national and international forums, including Lutheran World Federation consultations.
Kayemo is survived by his wife Tsige Woldie, and three teenage children. (190 words)
