Indian Lutheran Bishop Bela Lakra Dies
Lakra, Moderator of Gossner Evangelical Lutheran in Chotanagpur and AssamBishop Belas Lakra, moderator of the Gossner Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chotanagpur and Assam (GELC), India, passed away January 13, aged 64. Lakra was elected bishop of the GELC’s North West Diocese in 1995 and served as the church’s deputy moderator from 1995 to October 2001. He assumed the position of moderator in November 2001. The GELC is one of nine LWF member churches in India, and has a membership of 380,135. (78 words)
