The LWF has taken a further step in the healing of memories with Mennonites.
The 2009 Council approved a statement asking for forgiveness for Lutheran persecution of Anabaptists in the sixteenth century and hurtful portrayals to the present day.

About the LWF Council • The 49-member Council is responsible for LWF business between Assemblies. Approximately 75 representatives of LWF member churches and partner organizations will gather for the 2009 Council meeting near Geneva, Switzerland. They will be joined by around 90 other participants including interpreters, guests, LWF staff, media and stewards.
Hosting the 2009 Council is LWF member the Federation of Evangelical Lutheran Churches in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
