LWF Treasurer Stoll Calls for Payment of Fair membership Fees and Priority Setting Process

The Treasurer of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), Mr Peter Stoll, called on LWF Council members and the member churches to share in the process of fund raising, saying this should be a challenge and commitment for everyone. "Please try to bring us new ideas," Stoll appealed in his report to the Council meeting in Chavannes-de-Bogis near Geneva on Thursday, 2 September. Apart from efforts to raise earmarked funds for projects and programs, there should be emphasis on the payment of fair membership fees and on the Endowment Fund.

The present income was not sufficient to carry out all the tasks of the LWF. Setting new priorities would not be a solution "because all our priorities are on the same level," said Stoll who was elected treasurer of the LWF in August 2003 by the then newly elected Council in Winnipeg, Canada. Therefore is was necessary to have a proper priority setting process in which "some less important priorities can be set aside to wait for better times." More...

Further Deficit Foreseen in LWF Budget in the Coming Years

Based on current projections, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) expects a difficult financial situation in the coming years. From the pledges received so far from its partner organizations as well as income from membership fees, a further deficit is expected in the LWF budget, according to the LWF Treasurer, Mr Peter Stoll.

Stoll made these remarks today during a press conference at the LWF Council meeting at Chavannes-de-Bogis near Geneva. In view of financial realities in some of the LWF member churches, especially in Germany, the LWF would either consider ways to improve efficiency or call for further cuts. More...

Council members as well as advisors ought to be more prominent in their respective regions by visiting member churches and being the LWF's visible face, Noko said at a press conference following his September 1 re-election for another seven-year term by the Council meeting at Chavannes-de-Bogis near Geneva.

He especially spoke of the need for vice-presidents to be more involved in building up a sense of communion, so that LWF members know that they "do not stand alone but together." More..
